- Driving home. Turn on my cell phone (it doesn't work in the office or my home anymore - all of 6 months old). Get a voicemail from a guy trying to invite himself to "visit" me. First of all, my home is a disaster (more on that in the next items). Second, I know what "visit" mean - and that ain't gonna happen. Not with him anyway. Annoyed that he doesn't leave a call back number - even though I wouldn't have called anyway. Double annoyed that he asks, for the billionth time, when I get off work - even though I've already answered that question the billion other times and the answer never changes... "9pm or later"!! Triple annoyed when I recall how each time I give that answer, he asks if I can leave early. Uh... hello... even if I could, I would not do so for you!! Stop at the drugstore & kill time to make extra-sure that I get home at an hour too late for him to "just stop by". Still pissed.
- Manage to keep Moshi inside the house as I go in. Turn around to lock the security door and see something odd at the top of the porch "roof". I can tell it's dark grey. Oh, wait... there's another one. They don't look spider related. Besides, I've had lots of spiders on the porch but never seen anything like those. I step outside and realize... wasp/hornet/yellow jacket nests!! Just the beginning - didn't see them this morning and they definitely weren't there 2 nights ago. By size, there is probably 1 flying stinging bug (if any) in each of them. I've had about 6 new stingy bugs show up in my backyard this summer. At least now I know where 1, maybe 2, is planning to live. Back to drugstore. Buy wasp/hornet/yellow jacket killer spray. Come home. Scare Boo & Moshi enough that I can open the security door without them running out it. Spray down the nests. Pray that kills at least a couple of the bugs (supposed to keep working for a few days). Wonder where the rest of the stingy bugs are living... and if I'm going to find that out the hard/expensive way (massive nest in the attic or, worse, one of the cats (Moshi) pissing off a hive and getting repeatedly stung).
- Realize the bathroom, again, smells like cat pee. Appreciate that Moshi is trying to follow my example in room selection. Annoyed that I don't know exactly where he's doing it so I have to spray pretty much the entire room with 409 & odor neutralizer.
- Discover that Moshi and I have a communication problem. As I sit on the bed and he walks around mewing. I think he's asking for petting. I indicate to come up on the bed. He was actually asking where, since I won't let him outside, he should pee. We go through this twice. LOTS of yelling on my part.
You'll have fun!! S Factor is a good & enjoyable workout. But it's also pretty intense. (do you like ab work? they do lots of ab work!). And I'm lazy and really want to continue my weekend of doing nothing. If I go to class, I'll either (a) get all energized and run errands and stuff after class and have trouble sleeping tonight or (b) get exhausted and be worthless for the rest of the day. 50/50 call.
Today's assignment is "sentimental clothing". That one always makes me laugh because I apparently don't attach sentiment to clothing. Except the nightshirt I was wearing when my cat died in my arms... but I don't think hysterical depression is quite the sentiment we're going for. I'm bringing semi-sentimental music instead... Oasis' "Wonderwall".
In other stuff:
I watched "Dreamgirls" on DVD yesterday. SO glad I didn't pay to see that in a theater! I thought it was too long - and definitely think it must have worked much better as a play. I later watched "Quincinera", which I liked. It was a nice film - not life changing, not majorly dramatic, but an enjoyable way to pass 90 min. I also enjoyed the mix of English & Spanish languages.
Has anyone seen "Dreamland"?? That was on the previews and I can't tell if I'd really like it or hate it.
In Moshi news:
After getting out of the house yesterday, Moshi came back 3 or 4 hours later... with his drainage tube wound becoming majorly infected (in 3 hrs!?!?) and a fresh hole in his face (yes, I said HOLE... in his face) from where the doc had taken out the stitches too soon and Mosh had somehow ripped the section back open. I could see his cheek bone. There was a good deal of controlled freaking out on my part.
I thought about taking him to an ER (6p on Sat), for new stitches, but felt it would be kinda pointless - the skin around the new hole was largely healed on the sides so stitches wouldn't do much (except keep the hole closed and make him scratch more - and tear it open again. repeat.). I actually considered closing it with super glue. Yes, I know that sounds insane. But it can be used as an "emergency suture" for humans (I have no idea why I know that). However, I had no idea whether or not it's safe for cats so I passed. I settled for using some hydrogen peroxide on the infected area and "wait & watch" for the whole mess. ER Sat night or ER Sun afternoon = same difference.
Happily, all looks MUCH better today. The original wound (from the drainage tube) no longer appears infected and is scabbing nicely. The new hole has also closed up pretty well. And, knock on wood, I see no indicators of new infections. Moshi will have some wicked scars from all this - but there's not much I can do about that. Extra happily: Since coming back home, Moshi has been MUCH better about staying indoors.
Okay... I have 45 min to shower, dress for class, find something to wear over my workout outfit (for the drive), pack something to wear for performing during freestyle/routine, and get on the road.
Sunday. Energy. Bleech.
The captors release Moshi. New wound was hematoma - not new infection. Orig infection is healing well. No more tube or collar (provided he doesn't scratch at the wounds - which, now that we're home, he IS doing).
Now please send your good juju to Stacy's cat, Oscar.
I got Moshi to the vet around 9:30a. They were super backed up so they admitted him and will check him out & do any necessary surgery later in the day. There's definitely a 2nd abscess, at his ear, that will need to be drained. I don't know if they can do that from the existing incisions or if they'll have to cut him open in another spot.
I'm definitely leaving him for boarding this time. I recall the cost is only about $25 a day (or maybe that's the non-surg boarding cost). Even if it's more, it's money well spent for my piece of mind. I probably won't be able to visit Mosh till Saturday (the vet is about 15 miles from my home, the opposite direction from work). He might be healed up enough to go home by then - but I'm pretty much planning on him staying there till Monday.
Of course... seeing him all terrified - giving me that "but why would you do this to me?" look, and me operating on 5 hrs of constantly interrupted sleep, and work being a lot of pointless stress right now has left me a mess. I break into short crying fits about once every 30 min.
I'm home now. Boo & Espressa are out of hiding and enjoying being able to wander the house & backyard without "the strange alien cat" in their way. I'm gonna take a nap and see if I can deal with work in the afternoon.
Bad news: The drainage tube is 98% out of Moshi's cheek and freshly bleeding (though not bad) and a stitch might be f-ed up too.
Good news: Checking out the tube, to see if there was anyway to recover the situation, led me to notice that there's a new abscess forming just under his ear.
Bad news: Gonna have to go to the vet again in the morning - and the "urgent care" appts are not cheap.
Good news: Better to find and deal with it all now/early than later/worse.
Mixed news: I'm considering medical boarding at the vet's this time. It will freak Moshi out pretty bad. But it will also mean routine checking of his wounds/recovery, total restriction of his activity, and me not having to worry about what's going on while I'm not home or trying to sleep. And Espressa & Boo (who are both still hiding) could come out again.
The combo of worry/stress/guilt has me wanting valium... or any other form of industrial tranquilizer. I am very much on the border of a nervous breakdown.
Moshi is very happy to be out of the vet office and rapidly adjusting to his e-collar (thankfully, the vet stocks soft e-collars so we got one of those). I stayed home with him for about 2 hrs and he had just figured out how to lay with his head at the edge of the bed so that the e-collar hung over the edge of the bed and out of his way (so he could lay flat).
The other 2 cats (Espressa & Boo) were apparently freaked out by the sound of the cage so they didn't come out for the entire time I was home. I'm hoping everyone will be out and getting along by the time I return tonight.
The drain tube is HUGE... like the body of a pen. It sticks out of his check, along his face, for about an inch. Very icky right now as the would around it is still healing and any time he bumped the area it would bleed a bit again.
We go back to the vet on Sat to have the tube and stiches removed (though, honestly, I can't see removing the tube without putting a stitch where it was), and get another injection of antibiotics. Then back a week after that for blood work - to make sure there's no lingering infection.
Thanks again for all the well wishes!! I'll try to post an updated pic of him tonight.
Moshi isn't any worse but he also isn't any better. You can see the mondo-lump on the left (his right) in the blurry pics.
So tomorrow will require waking up early and heading in to the vet to find out what's wrong and pray that it's something minor. Tonight I was using a feather toy to play with the cats and noticed he doesn't want to open his mouth very wide - so it's affecting his jaw (go figure, huh?.. since it's centered right over the jaw joint).
I'm feeling guilty because I remember us smacking into each other on the bed Thurs night... I turned over and my foot smacked into an unknown part of him. I'm all a-feared that I unknowingly kicked him in the face and broke his jaw or something. He didn't cry or anything... but, then, he never does (unless he wants to know where I am - which is totally cute). I didn't see him Fri morn (I open the door for the cats then go right back to bed) so I don't know if it was swollen then or if it happened while I was at work.
But it's a wasp bite and going to heal just fine with a little time. Right?
In other news:
I'm still dealing with the fatigue. After a good night's sleep last night, my mind was refreshed but my body felt like I'd never been to bed. I figured trying to workout would be stupid - a high likelihood for injury - so I called out. I spent a little bit of time tanning in the backyard, then debating about a nap, till I finally dragged myself out for a pedicure. You know you're tired when the thought of sitting in a car to go sit in a massage chair for an hour sounds exhausting!
I thought about my diet as of late, how I'm still feeling exhausted despite the prescription speed (I don't take it often cause although it revs up my brain there just doesn't seem to be any physical energy to fire off), that the RedCross has always labeled me borderline anemic (though blood tests always come back fine), and that my new vitamins don't contain iron - and decided to pick up some supplements. We'll see if they have any effect. If not, I guess I'll do another round of blood tests.
In still other news:
I watched Almodovar's "Volver" tonight and LOVED it. I think it's some of his best work. Not completely like his other stuff - but not unlike it either. And the previews on the DVD were ALL for stuff I thought looked good and am about to add to my Netflix queue (though I've already seen everything that's released and can only add the others as "save"). I'm particularly interested in Angel-A from Luc Penson ("The Fifth Element" & "The Professional", both of which I LOVE). And even though I'm not a big fan of Beatles music, "Across the Universe" looks interesting.
In final news:
Cirque announced that it's newest show, Kooza is coming to San Fran and San Jose soon... but didn't announce dates yet. I'll be buying a ticket & scheduling my flight as soon as that info comes out. And Corteo's run in SoCal has been extended to Dec 23 (starts in August!) - so I'm thinking of buying a 3rd ticket to that as a holiday thing. But maybe I'll wait for more info on Kooza first.
And now I'm off to glance at neighbors and maybe post a few comments before I go to bed. A thousand apologies for not being a good neighbor and keeping up on everyone's gossip. I'll try to catch up soon.
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to my IRL friend, Jeffie-Jeff!! (I didn't realize how much I miss you till I felt the huge grin on my face while listening to your message.)
Here's Moshi playing, "If I spread my legs out and pretend to be a frog, maybe the evil man won't give me any shots." No one had even touched him yet. He just froze into this position for the entire appt. I've literally never seen him this scared before (poor baby).
To be fair, our vet is OUTSTANDING and the bill was only this high cause I bought 3 packs of Advantage (nearly $70 each) and some prescription food.
Next weekend is Boo's turn. Then the elusive Espressa (who has been in hiding since the cat carrier was brought into the house). The fun never ends!
