My day so far:
Get to work, bring bogus Disability compensation paperwork to HR and point out glaring mathematical errors (such as: 70% of 1500 = 450, therefore here's your check for $60). HR calls private rep and learns that whoever was responsible for processing our claims was let go - so all of our company's claims since Jan 1 need to be rechecked and repaid. Which means another month or two of waiting. But at least I'll get what I'm actually expecting - which should be around $200.
Call State Disability because I got a letter from them on 2/7 but still haven't rec'd a check. 15 min of automated hold time, adjuster asks my ID info then instantly says, "Your check for $800 will be in the mail tomorrow." I ask if there was some problem that delayed my payment. No... they just forgot to issue it.
Once again... Life is trying to remind me (or force me) to be more interactive.
Semi-related, If anyone is looked for a room in San Fran, check into the line of "Personality Hotels on Union Square" (Hotel Diva, Hotel Union Square, Kensington Park, Hotel Metropolis, and Steinhart Hotel). Burgen, on reservations, is WONDERFUL. We lurrrrve him!!

I like the style (especially the designer's statement - below the pics) and the Travelzoo price is good ($85/night, or $115 with upgrade). I'm thinking of this as my backup in case my other connection doesn't come through with a room discount.
Packages (gotta love any place that thinks like this). CupCate, I think we should have booked the Divas Gone Wild package!! [upd: I just looked at the "Bond with Love" package. Thought it would be 007-themed. Huh-uh. It's Bond-age themed. w00t! I think I am in love with this hotel chain!]

A Message from the Diva Designer
When we worked on The Diva - the primary impression was that the hotel needed to convey sensuality in some manner. For me, hotels are about getting away from every day patterns, a break from one's normal life. They are about sleeping in a new bed, great linens, using as much hot water as you want, room service, getting up late, and having sex in the middle of the day.
I feel like the effectiveness of The Diva came from the design conveying that attitude. The curvaceous metal forms, the cobalt blue carpet - reminiscent of blue velvet, the onyx, that when backlit, makes every one look tan - those are all parts of the imagery.
And just as important, it needs to be new! If we have seen it before then it doesn't engage the imagination, and for it to be really sexy, that has to happen. It needs to be hot and elegant and exotic and a surprise - sort of the perfect one night stand.
