I tried out my new outfit... a kind of short dress (doubles as a long top), dark tights, and suede boots. Damn if I didn't look totally cute! Plus, I decided to go with "fancy" makeup and that all came together perfectly too. I was quite pleased with myself!
I headed to El Cid (Silverlake, other side of the freeway from Hollywood... about 30 miles) and, minus one wrong turn (I make at least one wrong turn EVERY time I go), I got there with no problem. I valeted and descended the steps from hell (they were built around 1918 and are wildly lopsided and off balance, some big, some small, all crazy). With careful use of handrails and walls, I got to the bottom without falling (a minor miracle). I commented to the door guy about how hard they are to deal with. He apparently also suffers from a trick knee and offered to take my valet ticket and have my car moved, after the show, to the side lot so I would not have to ascend the stairs to get back out. Yay!!
The show was the annual Hollywood Pinup Girls' Super Sexy Christmas Burlesque. I got seated right away and had a fantastic spot (front row), by really nice people. I ordered a Mojito (best in LA), then another, then chips & guaca - which I shared with everyone around me - to their ravenous appreciation.
The show was, as always, fantastic & fun & funny. I think I got some really good video this time (haven't checked yet). Both the lead guy (who I learned is a well known & respected choreographer) and lead girl did aerial hoops... both VERY good. I also found out that the guy teaches at Hollywood Aerial Arts in Inglewood (did you read that VB?!?). Unfortunately, his part of the show wasn't well lit, so I didn't get any vid of the wild tricks he was doing. But his performance was amazing... I'd love to study with him!
During the show, I was a bit concerned when I smelled something odd, but familiar, burning. It turned out to be the hair of one of the women across from me. I'm still not quite sure how she managed to set herself on fire but it was apparently flaming up pretty good before she realized it. Luckily, it didn't really burn that much hair so while she was worried about the overall effect, I've had my hair set on fire twice (notice, I said set on fire - I didn't do it) so I know it's not that big a deal and all I could offer was, "hey, no more splint ends!"
During the show, I had a 3rd mojito, which was my limit for the night. Thanks to the sugar rimmed glasses, my cameraphone is a sticky mess.
When the show was over, the door guy brought me my keys and told me where my car was. I tipped him and the valet guys, headed out, and found I was blocked by an SUV. So I went back inside and... had another mojito!! (thank gawd for high tolerance)
By the time I was done, my car was free and I headed for home. Early in the night, I had txt'd C to say I was up in LA, looking good, and would like to meet him later. I got no response and was PISSED. I thought, despite not returning my msg (which is some new game he's playing... one that's making me mad), he might swing by my house - so I refused to go there. Where to go? Why, of course A BAR!.
I went to Puka and had double-espresso vodka on the rocks. I met a few people, was hit on by a 23 yr old guy (in front of his girlfriend!! But he was F-ed up so I think she'll forgive him), and had fun with the bartender. It's the first time I've felt really "in" there... which was nice.
We were all hoping for a Domino's guy to come in, selling $5 pizzas (they often do that) but it never happened. However, we did get a guy selling $5 DVDs. And the top one on the stack was Seven Pounds... which was just released in theaters on Friday! I had no idea if it was one of those videos taken by someone in a theater, video taping the screen, or what. But for $5 I had to find out! I tried to watch it when I got home but I was way too drunk to pay attention. But I'm happy to report that it turned out to be a very clean copy of an Academy (as in the awards) preview DVD. I know it's illegal but dammmn, I'm happy with that purchase! As for the movie, all I know is that it does not follow standard US plot format... much more of a european feel: 30 min into the movie, I still don't know where the title came from (standard US style would have revealed that in the first 15 minutes).
So... looked good, felt good, good show, good drinks, good strangers, more good stranger, more good drinks, good DVD, and good night's rest. I'd say it was a damn good night!
Cat (in AU): I know you just looove when Koalas are called "cuddly".
I love that when you adopt (only $32 US!!) you get a picture of your koala and story of its rescue.
And you guys did some nice thinkin!!
The virtual Christmas tree was a BLAST. I loved the gifts - a billion times more than anything I ever could have received IRL (cause there was no "it's too much" guilt!!). The fun of the virtual presents was that people could give what they thought I'd appreciate - not what IRL realities, like cash flow and time, allowed.
So here's my final Christmas haul:

Hollywood Pinup Girls Super Sexy Burlesque at ElCid
12/24, 11:45pm: Only 15 min to go!! Many thanks to the cash donors, Cat & Pyzam.com - while cleaning piles of paperwork, I found a state tax refund check for $1,095!! It's probably a duplicate but won't it be great if it's not?!?
12/23, 2:34pm: IncrediThank you to my anonymous donor, Hunk Jayd. You've got some seriously strong juju.
Wow - I'm getting some KICK ASS GOOD gifts!! Thanks, guys - this is turning into the best Christmas evah!!
ps: Because I'm being a virtual whore for virtual presents, update posts will appear BELOW this one. Merry Xmas!
- The discovery that the cute slippers I bought last night, at Universal City (over 30 miles from my home; the store is not a chain) are a mismatched pair. But the kinda weird "ballet slipper" socks that I bought are totally cute (I'm glad I got Megan a pair too). Because of the distance and low price ($6), the slippers are probably just gonna be a write off.
- GREAT concert last night.
- Feeling bad for not getting Sean's messages yesterday cause I still wasn't dealing with IRL peeps.
- Ice cream (BaskinRobbins PB/chocolate) for breakfast (if 2pm can be breakfast)
- Lots of online shopping - lots of items into my shopping bags but no actual purchasing
- A mountain of laundry to be done
- A Christmas surprise
- FREE TIME!!!!!!
Share your favorite holiday song.
They played this at MissKitty's, last Friday, and I had a nice blast to the past.
My seat was suhweeeet (2nd row behind pit... which was only 1/2 full.. and the seat next to me was unsold - so I had lots of room). Audience was boring - not much dancing; LOTS of young kids who seemed bored. The band was FANTASTIC!!
Thus ends my holiday celebrating. Though, 3 full days & nights of NO plans, NO commitments, and NOwhere that I have to be sounds like pure bliss!!
