The cost of an indoor/outdoor cat

Comments

I am so glad that it is nothing more serious. Your kitty is lucky to have someone like you to take care of it.

Jesus! Dont vets sleep down there in tinseltown?!

(good that its nothing to serious though, except a big bill and a sleepy trip).

I'm lucky to have 3 ER vets within a 20 mile radius of me. The place Moshi is at right now is only open nights & weekends. Their prices are lower than the other ERs, which are 24/7, but still higher than "regular hours" care.

I looked up when this happened last summer at I was able to take him to his regular vet. It cost me $355 - and that included an overnight stay. Then another $80 when he pulled out his drainage tube (tonight's vet said she's hopeful she can skip that part).

Most annoying part of this - there's a substantial chance that one of my other cats caused it.
Thanks. Keep thinking positive - the vet kinda vaguely implied that she maybe thought he should be tested for feline leukemia or feline aids. I think it's because the infection progressed so fast - and that he's had such bad reactions twice now. (she also said transmission is via bites - but he hasn't been bitten, just scratched)

i'm hoping the infection was extra strong because he just healed up 2 leg wounds (also probably caused by 1 of my other cats) - so maybe his body was still in infection response mode.

but i'll probably end up having him checked out by his primary care vet. (and, yes, I realize the semi-insanity of the fact that my cat has a "primary care" vet)
