Seeking Curtain Ideas
Here's the workout room. I've envisioned long, dark blue, silk curtains but haven't found any I like (that I can afford). I originally planned to buy silk table runners in SF Chinatown ($10 each) and have them sewn into curtains. But I found these 2 options at Ikea and the price works out about the same. Orange suddenly seems like a great option - especially since I've always planned to paint the opposite wall "leopard glass" (a softer version of leopard print). Note that there are 2 walls to be covered.
Opinions? Alternate suggestions?
And below is my bedroom, with its totally F-ed up 2-different-size windows on the same wall. And peeling plaster (still plan to have the contractor fix that). Should I hang one long curtain rod across the entire wall? Two rods, but of the same size?? (so you don't know the windows are different sizes till the curtains are open) Just cover one window and take the blinds off the other?? Ideally, I'd like to have the right window replaced with glass bricks, or stained glass, or a non-opening window, or maybe one of those windows with plant racks in it. I dunno.
In the meantime.... what about having the pictured duvet made into curtains?? I think I eventually want the room painted a med/dark "sand" color - with trim painted some kind of "pop" color. Was thinking of a aqua shade for the trim but should probably try to coordinate with my sheets - which are mostly sand or dark red colors. What about the orange option (above) in here? Too much for a sleep-based room?
Comments
although, i vote for the orange curtains. because orange is my fave color. hehe. :P
I hate vertical slat blinds. Love roman shade style coverings, but I prefer machine washable.
Right now I have loop tab curtains hanging in my bed room hung with note tacks. Yep, I stuck the freaking note tacks right into the freaking wall.
I don't suck at decorating, I suck at deciding then doing! The house we left was nothing BUT windows, the condo we have now has a total of 5 windows if you include the patio sliding glass door.
I get Apartment Therapy and Materialicious sent to my email. Good ideas from time to time there.
I have dark red curtains in my living room Iwhich is why I'm not considering that for the workout room) and multi-shade blue in my dining room (which I plan to eventually plan to paint multiple shades of blue). All of those shade are actually shower curtains - cheaper than traditional curtains and hang to a couple feet below the windows but not all the way to the floor (which I love).
I have old lathe & plaster walls that like to crumble when you try to put anything in them. You would have loved last week's meltdown, followed by another on Sunday, when I tried to rehang the curtain rod that MeowMeow knocked down.
you should see our place. we still have our mismatching furniture from when we first moved in together... and nothing matches. at all. hehe. at least you're working on your place. i don't think i'm even going to start. hehe.
the "style" of my home is "late 20th century clutter".
i keep justifying our mismatched home by saying that there's no point because mia's just gonna ruin it. buuuut... i'll probably come up with some other excuse even when she's older.
dude, our walls are stark white because i'm too lazy to paint. haha!
i insist that "mismatch" is a stylistic choice. all of my dishes & flatware are the that way too - max of 3 matching pieces. i bought a new set (more than 3 yrs ago, still not unpacked) specifically because the design was "coordinated mismatch".
but painting them made me SO sore. i mean, i have NEVER been so sore in my life... so then i decided, fuck it. i'm not painting them again. hehe. who knows. maybe if we EVER get matching furniture, i may want to paint them. hehe. we'll see.
another thing is that our place is pretty small, so i can't even think about what color to paint them without making it seem smaller. does that make sense?
nice advantage of a house, I can convince myself improvements are investments and that it's, therefore, okay to pay someone to do them - via the equity line.
i think i might love you. hehe.
But then again, I'm a blinds kind of girl, and firm believer that the room needs to be painted before you make additional stylistic choices. I painted my living room three times before I came to a good conclusion, and if I had windows there, I would've had to buy three different sets of curtains.
I actually really adore your mismatched windows! I almost kind of wish one of my bedroom windows was a wee one now. The duvet is really cute too, and since the design isn't so uniform I think it would work well for making two sets of curtains. If the proportions are right you could do the larger window with the lighter part and the smaller window with the dark part. I also like the idea of the little flowers from the duvet and just a little of the "dirt" part being the bottom of the curtains--very cute indeed.
Good luck!
I hate mini-blinds. Full size wood blinds are okay but I can't afford the ones that would coordinate with my windows (dark oak).
I'm not worried about wall colors cause it will probably be a good long time before I actually paint - and I'll never notice whether or not the paint & curtains actually coordinate or clash - I'm into "early american mismatch".
But... that said... I have a nice medium sand color in mind for the bedroom. But I recently started thinking that's too bland... not "a girl lives here", or "this is the room where we have the naughty time", or "this is where I sleep". But I don't know what those colors would be either.
I really like reds + orange + yellow rooms (paint & accessories) but doubt I'll ever be coordinated enough to put a whole room together. And I no longer have gay neighbors to do it for me.
