Gonna try and see this after my Leather ToyMaking Workshop at the Lair De Sade Tues night. WooHoo!!
Ralph, Justin's partner, told me about it so I invited him to meet me there but I know there's a 99% chance against that happening.
(Credit: Bradford Rogne) Take your pants off. Now get on all fours, strap on a horsetail and gallop to the music.Congratulations! You’ve got what it takes to be a dancer at Lucky Devil—the new man-on-man show at Forty Deuce that turns watching dudes getting sweaty in little more than a jockstrap into high art.No surprise, the crowd at Lucky Devil comprises mostly young, hip, gay men, with a couple of “If These Walls Could Talk 2”-esque lesbian couples and the odd hetero dude sticking out like a sore, straight thumb [cough, cough]. Forty Deuce kingpin Ivan Kane was front and center at the opening night performance, enjoying every sweaty minute of the show in a roped-off VIP section. Not far behind him sat burlesque artist and real-life pinup Dita Von Teese, once a dancer at the club herself, who revealed that she “preferred being a spectator rather than dancing," because of the club's perilously narrow catwalk. We nabbed a seat at the horseshoe-shaped bar, which doubles as the stage (our server warned us to “watch out for flying objects” – gross!), though as the night progressed it became clear that standing is optimal for maximum crotch-eye synchronicity. As soon as the lights turn low, the fog machine starts up, and the ear-splittingly loud sound system pumps out Britney, vintage Destiny’s Child, and George Michael (is it officially a gay burlesque without a chorus of "Father Figure"?), the crowd goes wild. It's gonna take all my strength to actually get to this tonight - after waking up at 7-something AM. But I'm really determined to do it!!
Sounds like your show was fun... glad to hear it. I've been to one bad burlesque show and hate to think how many people assumed that's just the norm. I look forward to your post!
