Walking Tour - Grace Cathedral 02b - St Francis statue
One of the few statues of a person done by Beniamino "Benny" Bufano. The story is that he was at a museum when one of his early pieces was on display. The curators bitched at a kid for touching the statue. The artist got mad, because he had designed his pieces to be tactile, and refused to let his artwork be shown in public during his lifetime. Upon his death, a large collection of statues that were at his home - mainly images of animals - were distributed throughout the city of San Francisco.
